William Wisniewski Obituary

William L. Wisniewski, 69, of Rocky Hill, CT passed away September 14, 2022 with his loving family by his side.  He is survived by his three children; daughters, Katie Messina and Kristen Koncinsky and son Steven Wisniewski of Waterford, his ten grandchildren, his brother Bruce Wisniewski and his sister Judith Clifford of Montville. He is predeceased by his father, loving mother and oldest brother, Steven A. Wisniewski

William was born in Norwich in 1953 to Anthony and Lacardia (Slaga) Wisniewski, the youngest of their four children.  William grew up in Montville and graduated Montville High School in 1971.  After high school he joined the Army where he proudly served his country as a medic during the Vietnam War.

After the Army, William pursued a career as a diesel marine mechanic for Cross Sound Ferry of New London.  He loved the work and often took his children along for boat rides on jobs to watch the action. A lover of all things maritime, he was just as happy to be working in a loud engine room as he was to relax topside and sail along the Thames River or Long Island Sound. Upon retirement, he moved to Rocky Hill where he was able to be very active in Veteran’s Affairs.

William was a mischievous youngster, as were most in the neighborhood.  His mother grew tired of the confusion over which William on the block was to be reprimanded, earning him the nickname “Willy” to set him apart.  This fun-loving mischief would carry through his whole life.  William had an incredible sense of humor and the most infectious laugh.  He loved to have a good time and always managed to keep his youthful spirit.

He was an excellent cook and a true jack-of-all trades.  There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build, fix or create.  William had a soft spot for animals, cats particularly.  He would often surprise his children with a stray he rescued from one of the shipyards.

Sports were a huge part of William’s life. He never missed watching his beloved Mets or Patriots play. He had a passion for baseball and basketball that he passed on to his son, who William proudly watched excel under his guidance.  Many long afternoons were spent happily shooting hoops or at the batting cages.

William leaves behind many loved ones and friends who will miss him greatly.  A private burial is planned.  A Celebration of Life is to take place in October, all are invited to attend, and more details will follow.
