William J. Mohrwinkel, Jr.

      William J Mohrwinkel Jr., 89, of Haddam, CT and formally of Bethel, CT died peacefully Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He was predeceased by Margaret (Pressmar) Mohrwinkel, his wife of 54 years.

      Bill was born in Mount Vernon, NY on October 7, 1936, the only child of the late William J Mohrwinkel Sr and Ruth (Tillmann) Mohrwinkel. He graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1955 and then enlisted into the army. He served 2 years as an aircraft mechanic at Hickman Air Force Base in Oahu Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1957. Bill then became a sheet metal mechanic and worked with Sheet Metal Union Local 38 until retiring in 1993. He loved his work and taught many apprentices his craft.

       Bill was an avid bicycle rider and he and Marge would ride their bikes almost every day on the Rails to Trails network in Connecticut. Bill loved traveling with his family and friends and enjoyed his trips with Marge to the casinos, Cape Cod and Wildwood. An experienced mechanic, he loved working on motors of all kinds and was especially fond of cars from the 50’s. He was a big man with a huge heart and was always willing to help his friends, family and strangers. He loved all animals, especially their dog Timmy.

        He is survived by his daughter: Lee Benjamin and her husband Patrick of Chester, CT; son William Mohrwinkel and his wife Carrie Klein of Palmer, AK; grandchildren Halley Erickson and Michael Benjamin as well as many cousins.

        To honor Bill’s wishes, services and internment will be private. The family suggests donations may be made in Bill’s name to Danbury Animal Welfare Society or any animal rescue. Bill was a kind and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.
