William Himes Obituary

William (Bill) Himes, 69, beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on June 2nd, 2023, at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Bill was born in North Tonawanda, New York on July 15th, 1953, to Richard and Patricia (Balling) Himes. He was the big brother to three sisters, Cindy Busch, Kat Higinbothom, and Lori Himes.

Bill graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1971 and joined the United States Navy serving his country during the Vietnam War.

Bill spent his years living in New York, New Hampshire, Florida, and eventually settled in Connecticut. He held many jobs over his lifetime, but the one that brought him the greatest joy was that of a cook. He loved to cook and eat!

Bill was known to most as “Himsey” which he was affectionately nicknamed to distinguish him from another Bill in the family. Bill was a jokester, kind, loving, playful, and funny. He had a jovial spirit. He loved the Buffalo Bills, New York Mets, pepperoni and anchovy pizza, sweets, and his gin and tonic. Bill had several relationships in his life, but his favorite companion was his dog Jelly, a retired greyhound that he rescued.

Bill’s life was tough, and there were many struggles. Despite that, he never lost his humor, playfulness, and quick wit.

He is predeceased by his parents, and leaves behind his three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 8th at 1pm at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown, CT where full military honors will be accorded.

Refreshments to follow at the home of his sister Cindy, 140 Eastern Drive in Wethersfield, CT.
