Vincent “Vinny” Hokim, 78, of Middletown, CT, was taken away from us unexpectedly on January 4, 2025. Born on April 16, 1946, in May Pen Clarendon and grew up and lived in Old Harbour Jamaican West Indies. He was the son of Amberzine Howe and John Hoo-Kim (Sukum). Vincent’s life was one defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Vincent was an entrepreneur from age 14 after taking over the family business due to the illness of his father. He helped many young men to get a start in life even at that age in JWI. He migrated to USA and was the proud owner of Top Taste Jamaican Bakery in Hartford, CT, a beloved establishment where he touched the lives of many with his warmth, delicious treats, and generosity. His commitment to serving others and spreading joy through his baking reflected the deep love he had for his community. He received recognition from the West Indies Social Club for his dedication to the community in April of 2004.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 46 years Eugenie “Claire” Hokim, with whom he shared a life filled with love and laughter. He is also survived by his brothers, Jeff and Hopie; sisters, Rose and Joycline; daughter Janet Hokim Chua-Reyes and son-in-law Jesse Chua-Reyes; and son Dayon Hokim. Vincent's pride and joy were his grandchildren: Vanessa Strother and husband William, Dayon Hokim Jr., and Hannahzoe and Brian Hokim Chua-Reyes. His heart was further full with the love of his four great-grandchildren: Kody, William, Knox, and Vaeda.
Vincent cherished the role of husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always putting family first with an endless supply of love, kindness, and support. He was a devoted member of Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin. He was also a leader of a daily prayer line for over 10 years, where he offered comfort and strength to many. He was recognized from Bethesda Healing and Deliverance Temple for his dedicated service in 2024.
Vincent had a passion for gardening, and his love for the outdoors was only matched by his fondness for the beach. Known for his ever-present smile and kind words, he had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued.
