Thurman “Danny” Ready, 75, of Middletown, husband of the late Essie (Winborne) Ready, passed away on January 12, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Stamford, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Curley J., Sr. and Ruby Lee (Hunter) Ready.
Danny lived in Middletown most of his life and attended Middletown Public Schools. He was a member of Cross Street AME Zion Church where he sang in the Men’s Choir. He was employed at Jackson Corrugated, CAGM and Curley J’s Café. Danny played baseball in Middletown for the Social Gents and coached women’s softball for Buck’s Social Club and played in the Haddam Horseshoe League. He was an avid NY Yankees and New England Patriots fan and loved to sing and dance. Danny’s greatest love was his family, especially his children and sister.
Danny is survived by three sons Kinte Ellison of FL, Terry Winborne of Middletown, Dwayne Holloman of Springfield, MA and Melvon Ready of Middletown; five daughters Dana Ready of Middletown, Delisha Johnson of Springfield, MA, Alia Wheeler of Charlotte, NC, Femme Ready of Greenville, SC and Tashique Winborne of Middletown; a brother Calvin B. Ready of Middletown; a sister Roxanne Ready Hodge of Greenville, SC; brother-in-law Samuel Coney of Stamford; special cousin William “Billy” King of Middletown; twenty-one grandchildren; one great grandchild; three aunts and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his wife and parents, Danny was predeceased by three brothers, Norman A. Hunter, Curley J. Ready, Jr. and Arthur L. Ready and a special friend Tora Bartell.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11:00 am at Cross Street AME Zion Church. A burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Friday morning before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
