Stewart Kristiansen passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Stewart was the son of Raymond and Helen Kristiansen, and born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1942. He attended Millcreek Township, Pennsylvania schools through the 12th grade. He then graduated from Youngstown State University and received a graduate degree in Advanced Education from the University of Connecticut. After graduating from UConn, Stewart became a counselor at Wilson Middle School in Middletown, Connecticut. He worked in that capacity for 37 years and also served as the Cross-Country coach for Middletown High School during that time.
Stewart’s years in education and coaching were defined by his genuine and consistent efforts to open students’ eyes to their potential, and his post-retirement life was filled with happy encounters with former students on those paths.
In addition to his professional roles, Stewart was a master craftsman, golfer, church deacon, experimental baker, runner, avid gardener, sailor, skier, and persistent tinkerer. In all pursuits, Stewart was thoughtful, kind, and generous with his humor and time, generating meaningful connections and friendships throughout his life.
Most importantly, Stewart was dedicated to his family as a devoted husband to his wife, Sandy, incredible dad to Mark (Megan) and Sarah, and loving poppa to Stewart, Eddie, and Tait.
