Shirley G. Carlson, 96, of 22 Shelly St. Cromwell, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, after an incredible life surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear friends through the years.

Shirley was born on December 13, 1928, to her mother Gladys Glennie in Hartford, CT. She graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1946. She went on to marry her loving husband, Raymond Carlson Sr. in 1954, following his service in the Navy during WWII.

Shirley and Raymond had four children together: Raymond Carlson Jr. (spouse Diane Carlson), Dale Carlson, Robert Carlson Sr. (spouse Rita Carlson), and Diane Cohen. They spent their early years together raising their children in Cromwell, CT. As a family, they enjoyed boating, camping in Cape Cod, building a cabin in New Hampshire, enjoying the outdoors, and caring for Shirley’s many beloved pets.

Shirley was predeceased by Raymond who went to heaven in 1993.  She resided in their marital home for over 70 years, always welcoming family and friends to the table with a warm embrace and jovial spirit.

Shirley had a deep faith and personal relationship with the Lord.  She was a long-time, faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Middletown, CT and later Victory Church in Middlefield, CT. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Red Sox and cheering on her grandsons as they played football.

Shirley was the very best grandmother. She is survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Sarah Carlson, Lisa Palmisano, Gregory Carlson, John Carlson (spouse Marissa Carlson), Christina Leal (spouse Peter Leal Jr.), Nelson Carlson, Robert Carlson Jr., Cathy Carlson, Kelly Carlson, Manda Goddard and Kristy Wilber.
