Sandra Melissa (Chu) Sponzo, 55, of Windsor, Connecticut passed away on October 13, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Sponzo for over 19 years and the devoted mother to their son, Michael E. Sponzo.

Sandra was born on May 29, 1968, in New Amsterdam, Guyana, South America to parents Shirley V. (Singh) and Clinton E. Chu (deceased). In addition to her husband, son, and mother, she is survived by her sister, Sharon A. Chu and brother-in-law, Michael P. Giardina of Durham, CT.

Sandra graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management. Her career in HRIM began at the Hyatt Grand Central in New York, NY and concluded at the Sheraton Bradley in Windsor Locks, CT.

Throughout her life, Sandra was passionate about being a Penn Stater (We Are!!…), being a fan of the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Orioles and being a volunteer for The American Red Cross. These all paled in comparison, however, to the fierce love and commitment she had for her family. Her true joy could be found in being the best mom possible to her son, Michael Evan. She was an ardent supporter of all the activities that her son was involved in and was so proud to be his mom.

Sandra can best be remembered for her zest for life and never taking anything for granted. She lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by the many friends and family members whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank all of Sandra’s doctors, nurses, and care professionals who attended to her, especially during her battle with cancer. She and her family were especially grateful for the excellent care and compassion provided by Hartford Hospital and the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center.

A private interment will be held per Sandra’s request and a memorial service to honor her life will be scheduled by the family at a future date.
