Ryan Wearne Obituary

Ryan M. Wearne, 31, of East Berlin, passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2026, at Hartford Hospital after a tough and courageous battle for his life. Born in New Britain, he graduated from Berlin High School in 2012. He was predeceased by his father, Richard E. Wearne, Sr.

Ryan is survived by his loving mother, Lynne (Wearne) McKenney, and stepfather, Dan of East Berlin; his brother, Sean Wearne and his girlfriend Nikole Cotrona, of Cromwell, his sister, Alanna (McKenney) St. Peter and her husband AJ of Higganum, his brother Mike Wearne and wife Stephanie of Ellington and his sister, Lori (Wearne) Little of Ellington, cousin Kimberly (Kidd) Cassone and her husband Jason of Berlin as well as many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and cousins with whom he shared cherished bonds. Ryan also had a deep and fiercely loyal love for a very special group of friends who meant the world to him, Brianna, Quan, Mina, Justin, Alicia, Ritesh, Ashlye, Anthony, Jeremy, Laura, CJ, Xavier and Theresa —friends who shared his life, his laughter, his passions and to who those many memories will continue to live on in their hearts.

Ryan’s love for life was reflected in the things he cared about most. He was a devoted football fan, with an especially deep and lifelong passion for the Philadelphia Eagles, carrying “The Birds” pride, everywhere he went. Ryan followed his team with high energy, enthusiasm and loyalty, finding joy and frustration in every game and every season. Go Birds!

He also had a strong love for lacrosse, particularly Berlin Lacrosse which he played for many years in youth and high school. In addition, he was an Assistant Coach of the girls lacrosse at Albertus Magnus and most recently, Coach of Cromwell Men's Lacrosse in their 2023-2024 season. Ryan was proud to give back to the sport he loved, sharing his knowledge, encouragement, passion, and often loud coaching voice with young players.

Beyond sports, Ryan’s passion for online gaming was more than a hobby—it was a place where friendship, laughter, and connection thrived. Whether he was dropping into Fortnite, battling it out in Marvel Rivals, or exploring a slew of other games, Ryan found real joy in playing alongside his brothers Sean, Roger, Anthony, Parker, Cooper, Austin, Cody T, Mike, Cody S, Ronny and Miles from the UK. Those late nights and shared victories weren’t just games; they were moments of camaraderie, teamwork, and genuine happiness. Through headsets and screens, Ryan built memories that are living proof that his spirit, humor, and love for his friends reached far beyond the digital world and into the hearts of everyone who played by his side.

Ryan also enjoyed all things Marvel, always drawn to its heroes and stories, watching and rewatching the Guardians timeline and  with each spin off, critiquing the next sequel as better or worse than the last, and he more recently, rekindled his love for the Pokémon phenomenon, attending ‘drops’ and experiencing the thrill of opening the pack among his friends, CJ and Quan, and embracing it with the same high energy and passion.

Ryan was employed at Best Buy in Newington and attended Edge Fitness in Glastonbury and Powerhouse in Cromwell. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his high, and often loud spirit, his laughter, his passions and the love he shared so freely. Though he was taken from us way too soon, his memory will live on in of all who knew and loved him.
