Royal Edward Cherry

Royal “Roy” Edward Cherry, aged 79, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He was born on January 16, 1946, in Windsor, North Carolina, the son of the late James “Jimmie” Cherry, Sr. and Emma Tyler Cherry.

Roy was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife of 60 years, Thelma, and a committed father to Aina Moyé (Christopher), and Areecia Cherry both of Middletown. He took great pride in being a grandfather to four grandchildren: Brittany, Christopher, Jr., Aidyn, and Sosia. Roy was preceded in death by his siblings Lucy Mae Cherry, Jimmie Cherry, Jr., Jesse Cherry, and Stevie Louis Cherry. He is survived by his siblings Charlie Louis Cherry (Sherlyn), Luther Cherry (Symera), Josephine Cherry Gatling (Otis), and Alice Faye Cherry, who continue to cherish his memory.

Roy was a hardworking man who built a career as a machinist at Sikorsky Aircraft, retiring after 30 years of service.  His life was a blessing, and his memory a treasure. He is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Doolittle Funeral Home, located at 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. The funeral service will follow from 11:00 a.m., after which interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown.
