Robert L. Sweeney

Robert L. Sweeney (Bob) 87, son of the late Francis J. and Evelyn (Frazier) Sweeney passed away comfortably at home on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2021 with his family by his side.  Bob was the beloved husband and best friend to Muriel Frenette Sweeney for 67 years.  Bob was born in Berlin, NH and was transferred to Middletown, CT to work as an assistant manager at JC Penneys Store and has made Middletown his home since 1962.  After JC Penneys, Bob moved to WT Grant as a manager.    When WT Grant closed, he was hired by the Gillette Company out of Boston, MA where he enjoyed different positions in regional and district management.  Upon retiring at the age of 65 after 25 years with Gillette, Bob volunteered for multiple organizations, including Ronald McDonald House of CT for 10 years and Amazing Grace Food Pantry in Middletown, CT until Multiple Myeloma slowed him down.  Bob and Muriel enjoyed many cruises to Europe and the Caribbean, and the multiple family celebrations that occurred every year.  In addition to his wife Muriel, he is survived by 3 sons.    Patrick and his wife Nora (New York City), Thomas and his wife Denise (Cromwell), James and his wife Lisa (Bristol).  Five grandchildren: Danielle (Paul) D’Onofrio (Cromwell), Matthew (Allie) Sweeney (Middletown), Cara (Jeffrey) Benham (Cromwell), Sean Sweeney (Cromwell), Samantha (Joseph) Annarumma (Fairfield), 2 great-grandsons: Chase and Austin D’Onofrio, and his brother Michael (Betty) Sweeney (Arkansas) and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister Carolyn and her husband Joe Basile, brothers: Donald, Richard, James, Francis, and Loren Sweeney. The family wants to thank the nurses of Beacon Hospice for taking such great care of Bob.  Due to covid-19 there will be no calling hours.  Funeral mass will be held at St. Pius Church in Middletown, CT on Wednesday March 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM to celebrate Bob’s life.  In lieu of flowers please send donations in Robert L.
