Robert Jerome Baskin, 84, of Madison CT, died on May 15, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on March 27, 1942, in Middletown CT to Benjamin and Pauline (Field) Baskin, Bob earned his A.B. in chemistry from Middlebury College. He taught college preparatory chemistry at Old Saybrook High School for three years before earning his master's degree in physical biochemistry at Trinity College (Hartford). In 1971, Bob began his career in government and public service, working with the Hartford City Council. From there, Bob joined Yankelovich, Skelly and White to start their government research division. In 1991, he relocated to Washington D.C. to become Chief of Staff to Congressman Sam Gejdenson and later was Associate Administrator for the Small Business Administration. He ran a political consulting firm, advising political figures and organizations before completing his career as CEO of The Peace Alliance working to reduce violence and promote understanding. Not satisfied with being retired, Bob returned to education as a full-time substitute teacher most recently at Daniel Hand High School in Madison.
During his lifetime, Bob was active in local politics and adept at fundraising. He never missed a high school or college reunion. For more than 20 years, he wrote alumni updates for Middlebury Magazine. Rooting for UConn women’s and men’s basketball was a must.
Bob leaves his loving wife of 39 years, Christine and their son, Jake, of Madison CT. Also surviving him are son Steven of Chester NH, daughter Raeanne of Rochester NY, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and brother Leonard of Monroe Township NJ. His daughter Leah Ulbrich predeceased him in 1995.
