Richard Notarangelo Obituary

Richard Gene (“Dick”) Notarangelo, 71, of Middlefield and Middletown, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 28, 2024.

Dick was born in Middletown, Connecticut to his parents, Lorenzo and Marie [Levis] Notarangelo, attended Middletown public schools and Central Connecticut State University where he received a Bachelor and Master’s degree in education. Dick spent the majority of his career teaching elementary and middle school in Middletown Public Schools, where he was fondly referred to as “Mr. N” by his students.

He met his wife and love of his life, Mary Ann [Charboneau] of Hamden, Connecticut and married in 1978. After teaching together in New Mexico, the two moved back to Middlefield, Connecticut where together they raised three sons, Michael, Richard and Stephen.

At home, he was a committed husband and father, and loved teaching his three sons the art of do-it-yourself home ownership. Together they built decks, sheds and pools and repaired their fair share of cars, lawnmowers, and bikes, always with 60’s oldies playing from a boombox. He loved comedy, always bringing laughter to the home, and schooled his sons in the finest of 1980’s cinema. As a teacher, he spent his career working to improve the lives of his students and bring laughter to the classroom.

Later in life, he most loved the cross-country road trips he and Mary Ann would take to visit the Southwest, particularly the areas they lived in as young adults. And he cherished every moment he got to spend playing with his grandchildren and making them laugh.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, close cousin Warren Hubbard Jr. of Middlefield, and in-laws William and Mary Ellen Charboneau of Middlefield. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his children Michael [Liz] Notarangelo of Cheshire, Richard [Sarah] Notarangelo of Glastonbury and Stephen Notarangelo of Middlefield, his five grandchildren, Logan, Jackson, Dylan, Noah and Avery and his brother Larry James.

The family would like to thank the Middlesex Home Hospice nurses for their care and concern in recent months.
