Richard Armand Boucher of Middletown, husband of the late Mary K. Kirchberger, died on March 13, 2026, with his daughter holding his hand. Born in Burlington Vermont on January 18, 1938, he was the son of the late Emile and Yvonne (Piche) Boucher.
Richard spent his early years in North Adams, Massachusetts, where he was active in the boy scouts, collecting and singing with his very musical family. He attended local schools from Dury High School (1957) and North Adams State College (1961). He moved to Middletown in 1961 and obtained a standard certificate from CCSU (1968) and a MALS at Wesleyan University (1975). He also attended many workshops sponsored by NSF and PIMMS. In a full-time teaching career spanning over 36 years, Richard eagerly shared his love for mathematics with students at RHAM High, Pulaski High and for 33 years at Xavier High School. At Xavier, he served as mathematics department chair, golf coach and moderator of numerous clubs and intermural activities. He also taught at the Choate School (5 summers) and evenings for Post College (3 years) and after retirement he taught part time at Middlesex Community College for 7 additional years. He was a member of the committee that formed the Middlesex County Math League in 1972, he was also active in atomic ATMNE and NCTM serving on numerous committees for conventions and nominations and serving as a private school representative.
Richard was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church. Due to illness, he never missed watching the service on TV on Sundays and receiving communion at home.
Richard is survived by his daughter Amy (Boucher) Nolan of Middletown and his granddaughter Katelyn Boucher of New Britain, a brother Donald Boucher of Suffield and 2 sisters Jane Schumaker of Clinton, MD and Ruth Delude of Orleans, MA.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by son Peter Bennett Boucher, 3 brothers Robert, Normand and Frank Boucher, 5 sisters Pat (Marie) Belval of Middletown, Doris Samson of Middletown, Lorette Luczinski of Savoy, MA, Pauline McConnell of Rancho Cordova CA and Lorraine Bailey of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Jacqueline Boucher, Lucille Boucher and Rita Boucher as children.
A graveside service will be held on March 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown Connecticut all who wish to attend may do so. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in Richard's name to Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center, 540 Saybrook Road, Suite 280, Middletown CT 06457.
