Rhoderick “Rhod” L. Leslie passed away on July 31, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Meriden, Connecticut on August 2, 1945 to Louise (Hill) Leslie and John D. Leslie, Sr. Rhod graduated Plant High School in Tampa, Florida in 1963, and he graduated from the University of South Florida in 1971. Rhod served in the US Army in the 125 Signal Battalion, 25th Infantry Division as a radio operator during the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. He later worked at The Hartford Insurance Group in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
In later years, as a self-employed craftsman, Rhod manufactured lamps and performed various types of antique restoration and skilled metalwork. During this time, he participated in the restoration of the House Chamber of Connecticut’s State Capitol Building.
Rhod is survived by his wife of 40 years, Martha (Stech) Leslie and their three sons: Gordon L. Leslie of Columbia; Logan E. Leslie, his wife, Erica (Anderson) Leslie of Atlanta, GA; Rory H. Leslie, his wife, Ashley (Cooke) Leslie of Wethersfield; four grandchildren: Lila, Scarlett, Ben and Claire; and a niece and nephew. He was also predeceased by his brothers, John D. Leslie, Jr. and E. Garry Leslie.
The visiting hours will be held at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown on Sunday, August 8 from 2:00 – 4:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 9th at 10:00 am in Linwood Cemetery, Linwood Cemetery Road, Colchester where full military honors will be accorded.
