Reverend Richard Roy Raynor, 80, of Middletown, CT, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020. Born in Colerain, NC, he was the son of the late Willie and Florida (Watford) Raynor. Richard lived in Middletown since 1964. He was employed with Sears Automotive for approximately 25 years. Although he’d always said he wanted to work for as long as he could, he completed his working years through Elmcrest, then Rushford.
Well into retirement, he was still known to challenge a nephew or a neighbor in a game of basketball, certain he was going to win. Even through illness, he maintained a quick wit, great sense of humor and enjoyed catching you off guard with one of his light jokes. He loved to see people doing well. He loved being the one to make you laugh.
Faith and family were always very important to him. He was an ordained minister and eventually, his calling led him to becoming Co-Founder/Co-Pastor of APCOM (All People’s Community Outreach Ministry) with his wife, Eunice. He was faithful and known for being an all-around person, willing to do anything the church needed whether it be business, finances, upkeep or services. His faith was strong through the end.
In addition to his parents, Richard was pre-deceased by one daughter, Cynthia, three brothers, Roosevelt, Willie and Joseph, three sisters, Olivia, Mable, and Edna.
Besides his wife Eunice, he is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Raynor-White (Richard), Karen Leary (Alvin), and through Eunice, he gained three more daughters, Sonja Waters (Berlin), Kim Burnett, and Shanti Jennings (Andre).
Through all the daughters combined, he is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Shaun, Calvin Jr., Samone, LaToya, Brittany, Deron Jr., Deric, Ashlyn, Aisha, Diamond, Ed and Nyla, twelve great-grandchildren, three Godchildren, Avery, Melissa and Nina, four siblings, Adele, Bessie Lee, Sarah and James, a host of all special nephews, nieces, in-laws and long-time friends.
Calling hours will be held at the Doolittle Funeral Home on Monday, August 10th from 9:00 - 11:00 am. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
