Norma (Morris) Helming

Norma (Morris) Helming of Portland died December 4, 2023, after a long illness. She was born in Addison, Maine on July 22, 1932, to the late Bert and Bernice (Archer) Morris. She graduated from Washington State Teachers College in Machias, ME with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught elementary education in the Auburn, ME, Stockbridge, MA and Vernon, CT school systems.

Norma met the love of her life Robert Helming, and they married in 1958. They shared nearly 55 years of marriage prior to his death in 2013. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Helming of East Berlin and son Karl Helming of Portland. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Maxine Morris of South Portland, ME and numerous nieces and nephews. The youngest of six children, Norma was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters and their spouses – Earle (Eleanor) Morris, Robert Morris and Elmer (Camille) Morris, Margaret (Paul) Grace and Betty Thune.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Portland Care and Rehab for the care and kindness provided to their mother during her many years at the facility.
