Nancy Tepping Obituary

Nancy Rowell Tepping, 75, passed away April 24, 2024, at her home in Chester, Connecticut.

Nancy graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1967, where she excelled as a student and cheerleader. She earned her B.S. degree in Nursing from Duke University in 1971. Following graduation, she worked at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) and rose to the position of Head Nurse in the Neurosurgical unit. Nancy also earned her Master of Science degree from the University of New Haven in 1988. As YNHH became interested in the use of computer systems to support clinical practice, Nancy became the nursing representative toward the future physician order entry system. As such, she was instrumental in moving YNHH forward in the use of computerization to support patient care and reoriented her career to hospital information systems, retiring from Yale New Haven Hospital in 2008.

Nancy was a smart woman with a keen sense of humor and quick wit. She maintained many long-term friendships, some dating back to elementary school. She delighted in travel, family vacations (summers at Twin Lake Village, NH, topped the list), class reunions and other opportunities to gather with those she loved. Nancy was passionate about playing cards—progressive rummy was her specialty—and she took great delight in hosting the annual family Fourth of July celebration for many years. She loved to dance, even in parking lots outside of restaurants, to her daughters’ mortification. In later years, she took up golf, even scoring a hole in one!

Nancy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2001 and lived for many years with minimal symptoms. Eventually the disease took hold, yet she fought each day to maintain as normal a life as she could manage, with the incomparable love and support of her beloved husband Mark. Facing each day and every challenge thrown her way with grit and determination, Nancy never gave up—even when the going got tough. To the end, a few of her enduring joys were redecorating her home, shopping at Talbots and cleaning every square inch of her condo. Never one to pass up a good meal, Nancy delighted in going out to eat every chance she got, typically capping off the night with a sweet treat.

Nancy leaves to cherish her memory her husband Mark Tepping; daughters Ann Borgia, Meredith Borgia (Cliff Gaumond), Paige (Armando) Naranjo, Cecelia (Norman) Goldschmidt; grandkids Hannah, Micah, Jakob, Boston and Lucien; sister Sue (Bob) Linderman and brother Jack (Sherry) Rowell.

A memorial service will be held in the future. Contributions can be made in Nancy’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation at Parkinson.org. To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
