Miguel Mercado, Jr.

Miguel Mercado, Jr., 63, of Torrington, beloved husband of Sylvia Nieves Mercado for forty-six years, passed away on July 3, 2023, at Hartford Hospital.  Born in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Miguel and Nilda (Padilla-Rivera) Mercado.

Miguel served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper 82nd Air Borne Division at Fort Bragg for seven years and a M-16 Sharpshooter.  He was a diligent worker throughout his life, always providing for his family. He enjoyed fishing, dogs, motorcycles, Nathans hot dogs, old movies, and family events and was well known for grilling and his baked ham.  Miguel was a loving husband and family man always took care of his wife and daughters and most special to him were his grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Miguel is survived by three daughters, Maxi Mercado of Palm Bay, FL, Bessie Gonzalez of Bristol, and Lisa Mercado-Gonzalez of Stratford; a sister, Bessie Mercado of Medford, NY; eight grandchildren Ylana, Ryan, William, Marco, Alexander, Abrianna, Alyssa and Jalynn and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Eric Mercado.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 13th at 1:00 pm in the State Veteran Cemetery 317 Bow Lane, Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.  Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Miguel’s memory may be made to Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Pkwy, Suite 410, Rockville, MD 20852.  To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
