Melania Gonzalez, 55, of Middletown, passed away on April 17, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Angel M. and Zaida (Andujar) Gonzalez and had lived in Middletown since 1992.
She had a deep love for her children, her five granddaughters and her beloved dog, Blanca, who she spoiled and became her baby.
She loved taking her iPad everywhere with her keeping her connected to social media and making new friends in different states and countries. She enjoyed collecting Betty Boop items, creating pastels to sell, had a green thumb and loved her plants. Melania’s passion for cooking and being able to cook whatever she saw would bring her kitchen to life. That love of cooking brought everyone to her home, especially for family parties and holidays. She enjoyed taking pictures and capturing each special moment but disliked being in the photos. She had passion for taking naps and it was something no one could outdo.
Melania never judged, she would always listen and be straight forward. Everyone was welcomed at her home. She was very giving and enjoyed giving small gifts to show her appreciation. Her laugh was contagious, and her smile could light up any room. She always remained strong pushing forward through life raising her children as a single mother. She was always there for us, and she will be remembered and missed dearly. Most of all, remember her for who she was and the memories you made with her and hold them close to your heart.
She is survived by two sons, Issac Barrera of Middletown, Jose Barrera of New Britain; seven sisters, Maritza Espinal of Houston, TX, Ilian Gonzalez of Middletown, Migdalia Ruiz of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Mayda Herandez of Kinston, NC, Damaris Ramirez of Travares, FL, Iris Cabrera of Huntington Station, NY, and Selena Padilla of Leesburg, FL; one brother Jose Negron of Huntington Station, NY; five granddaughters, Alazaiyah, Samari, Emmanuella, Emily, and Emilia Barrera; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Cruz Barrera.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Doolittle Funeral Home 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
