Mary Virginia Duthaler, age 83, died at Heritage Commons in Middletown where she has lived for five years.
Virginia was born on September 1, 1942, to Mary V. Kennedy and Thomas F. Kennedy in Flushing, NY – the first of four children. She graduated from Dominican Academy and St. Clare’s Nursing School in Manhattan. Ginny was a dedicated and compassionate nurse – most recently at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, CT and Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT.
After beginning her career, Ginny and three of her friends from nursing school went on a cruise to Bermuda where she met the love of her life, Philip. Together they had many adventures including a business venture in England (Philip’s home country), the arrival of their beautiful son - Evan, remodeling a farmhouse, and then building a lovely lakefront home in Deep River, CT.
Virginia enjoyed art and home decorating. She also enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, Reilly and Rory, for many years. Most important were her family and many wonderful friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip Ronald Duthaler. She is survived by her son, Evan Ronald Duthaler and his fiancé, Jodie Hanson; her sister, Christine Kennedy; her brother, Thomas Kennedy and his wife, Maureen Kennedy; her brother, Mark Kennedy and his wife, Sasha Marohn; and her cousin, Robert Ross.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Heritage Commons who became wonderful, caring friends to Ginny.
