Mary Margaret (Bresnock) Dickes

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Bresnock Dickes of Middletown, 89, wife of the late Paul M. Dickes Sr. Mary passed on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Born in Wallingford, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (O’Brien) Bresnock.

Mary graduated from UCONN with a BS in nursing in 1951, worked at Meriden VNA for ten years and Middlesex VNA for twenty two years. She was an active member of MILE, Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords, and the YMCA as well as past president of the Miner Street Cemetery Association. Mary loved to ‘get away’, traveling abroad and extensively in the US. She took pride in her flowers and was always cooking in her kitchen. Mary especially cherished family celebrations, loved the holidays and enjoyed her many friends.

She leaves behind her son Paul M. Dickes Jr. and his wife Shirley of Middletown, her daughter Pamela Schneider and her husband David of Southington, and son Timothy Dickes and his wife Susan of Middletown, three grandchildren, Conner & Jenna Dickes and Erik Schneider, her longtime companion William King of Middletown and close, special friend Sara Pawlow of Middletown. As well as several other relatives whom she loved and adored.

Mary was predeceased by two sisters, Kathryn Bresnock, Elizabeth Layman and a brother John Bresnock.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all of Mary’s caregivers at Middlesex Hospice for their compassion and wonderful care.

A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Monday, August 13 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church in Middletown. Burial will follow at Miner Street Cemetery in Middletown.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Sunday evening 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home.
