Mary Kate (Kirchberger) Boucher

Mary Kate (Kirchberger) Boucher, 82, of Middletown, wife of Richard A. Boucher, died on July 29, 2023, at Wadsworth Glen.  Born in Torrington on May 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Bennett and Ethel (Brownlee) Kirchberger.  Mary’s early years were spent in Morris, CT where she attended local schools and was active in 4-H and the Grange.  As a member of the Morris Congregational Church, she participated in the youth group and served as a Sunday school teacher.

Mary graduated from Wamogo High School (Regional #6) in 1959, the University of Connecticut in 1963 with a BS in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She received an MS in Education from CCSU in 1974.  She taught in Bethlehem, Portland, and Middletown, retiring in 2000.

As a member of Christ Lutheran Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher and part-time office secretary.  Mary was active in the Altar Guild, Martha Unit, Memorial Gift & Archives, Book Club, church fair, and annual tag sale. Lastly, she became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell.

Mary was a life-long avid reader and enjoyed working with students having difficulty learning to read.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, her children and grandchild.

Besides her husband, Mary was survived by a daughter Amy Nolan and granddaughter Katelyn Boucher, both of Middletown and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by a son Peter Bennett Boucher and two brothers William Kirchberger and Robert Kirchberger.
