Martha Anne (Bishop) Schukoske, 75, of Cromwell, passed away on March 8, 2022 at Middlesex Hospital surrounded by family. Her passing on International Women’s Day was representative of her character and personality as Martha was an intelligent, kind, funny, strong, independent and determined woman.
Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Dorothy (Burgess) Bishop.
Martha was a resident of Cromwell since 1967. She was employed at Wesleyan University Health Center from 1981 until retiring in 2013. For 32 years and thereafter, Martha was forever grateful for her amazing “Wesleyan Family”. After retiring, her volunteer work for Cat Tales in Middletown, CT filled her days with joy and purpose. She loved her long-time neighbors who provided her with a caring community, especially Nancy Amodio and Rudy Burnham who became family.
Martha is survived by two daughters, April M. Francisco and her husband James of Mims, FL and Amy R. Lefebvre and her husband Mark of Cromwell; two beloved grandsons, Jack and Liam Lefebvre who were the light of her life; her sister, Carol J. Thompson of Cromwell; and the Schukoske family who gave her two bonus sisters and brothers, amazing nieces and nephews and an exceptional former husband, John Schukoske, who was her life-long friend and helped fill some of her last months with memorable conversations and acts of kindness.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her significant other, Philip J. Boucher.
There will be no services per her wishes, as she wanted to slip away in quietude. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha’s memory may be made to Cat Tales Inc., P.O. Box 901, Middletown, CT 06457.
