Mark Kauffman, of Longs, SC, and a lifelong resident of Durham, CT, passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2026, at the age of 66. He was born on December 25, 1959, in Middletown, CT, to Elaine and William Kauffman.

On February 21, 1987, Mark married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they shared nearly 40 wonderful years of marriage. Mark was not only Barbara's husband but also her best friend and soulmate. They knew each other so well that they often knew what the other was going to say before it was spoken. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling together and, most of all, spending time with their ever-growing family and attending the countless events, games, recitals, and milestones of their beloved grandchildren.

Above all else, Mark's greatest accomplishment and source of pride was his family. Together, he and Barbara built the life they always dreamed of, raising four children and watching them grow into loving spouses, parents, and successful adults. He believed that true success was not measured by wealth or possessions, but by the family you leave behind and the love you share along the way.

Mark was blessed with eight granddaughters and six grandsons, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He and Barbara devoted their lives to providing unconditional love, support, guidance, and laughter to their children and grandchildren. In return, they were surrounded by the same love they had so freely given. He was immensely proud of every member of his family and found his greatest joy in watching them grow, succeed, and create families of their own.

Mark was a wonderful husband, an incredible father, and the greatest Opa anyone could ask for. He was a man who was deeply loved, admired, and respected by all who knew him. His kindness, sense of humor, work ethic, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered forever.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Kauffman; his children, Maria (Graham) Trout of Oakham, MA, Desirae (Ryan) Ahlquist of Cromwell, CT, Joshua (Sara) Kauffman of Galivants Ferry, SC, and Brandan (Maria) Kauffman of Durham, CT; and his fourteen cherished grandchildren: Lottie, Brinna, Seth, Laylah, Braxton, Riley, Myles, Emma, Kaylee, Vada, Emmett, Joey, Augie, and Gigi. Mark is also survived by his four brothers Scott (Nancy), Blake, Troy and Keith (Lisa) and four sisters Mitzi, Linda, Nancy (Rick) and Dawn (Rob) and many nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by his parents Elaine and William Kauffman and his sister Sandra. 

Though he is no longer with us, his presence will continue to be felt wherever we go. He will forever live on in our hearts, in our stories, and in the values he passed down to those he loved. His legacy is one of love, family, devotion, and a life well lived.

The family will host a celebration of Mark's life on Sunday, August 2nd. Details will be shared publicly once finalized. All who knew and loved Mark are welcome to attend.
