Maria Emilia (Querido) Carvalho

         Maria Emilia Carvalho, 89, of Cromwell, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at Covenant Village, surrounded by her children.

      Maria was born on August 23, 1936, in Mira de Aire, Portugal to Adelino and Armenia Querido. Along with her parents and future husband’s family, she immigrated to the United States in 1944, establishing residency in Hartford Connecticut where she graduated from Hartford High School and later earned her RN license from St Francis Hospital School of Nursing. While raising her family and supporting her husband during his 20-year career in the US Air Force, Maria worked in hospitals spanning many states from MS to OR to CT.

      Maria was dedicated to her family, friends, faith and mahjong. She also enjoyed musical shows and theater. However, nothing lit up her face more than being with family.

      Along with her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Armindo. She is survived by her children, Tony (Rose) Carvalho, Susan Carvalho, and Linda (Skip) Hull; six cherished grandchildren, Krystal, Brittany (Chris), Justin, Tessa, Owen, and Mia; and three great grandchildren, Nolan, Beckett, and Cole.

      Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 3, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 4 at St Johns Church, 5 St John’s Court, Cromwell. Burial will follow at State Veteran’s Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Breakthrough T1D, previously JDRF.
