Major Charles Milliken Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Edward Milliken, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2020.  Chuck had been a resident at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Health Care Center in Rocky Hill, CT.  Prior to entering the VA Health Care Center, Chuck was a resident of Cheshire before retiring to North Carolina for 20 years and returning back to Cheshire.

Chuck was born in Tennessee on November 9, 1929.  At the age of 17 he joined the US Army and made this his career, retiring with the rank of Major after 20 years of service.  He was the recipient of numerous honors and medals during his distinguished career, including the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, (3) Good conduct Medals, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation, Merit Unit Medal, (2) Army Commendation Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Overseas Service Bar.

Chuck’s experience in the Army played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Army saved him and taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

He would often explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his success in his Military career and his subsequent second career in life insurance and investments.

Chuck is predeceased by his wife Evelyn, whom he worshiped and was married to for 63 years before her passing in 2016.  He gave her complete credit for his success.

He is also predeceased by his son Mark Milliken, daughter Marcia Metzler and sons-in-law Seth Krohn and Pat D’Amico.  He is survived by his daughters Margo D’Amico of Cheshire, Marcella Krohn of Cheshire and Martine and Jack Ozycz of Old Saybrook.  He is also survived by13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

We would like to thank the caregivers and staff at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Health Care Center for their exceptional, compassionate care during these last 3 years.  Services will full military honors will be private.
