Lymon Maytubby Obituary

Lonnie Maytubby died on November 23, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born in Great Bend, Kansas, son of Lymon S. (Chief) and Sally Maytubby. He graduated from Panhandle State College in 1967 where he was awarded a U.S. Army ROTC scholarship and upon graduation was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. During his 9 years of service, he completed two tours in Vietnam where he earned 3 Bronze Stars amongst other commendations. Other stations included assignments in Germany, Forts in Texas, Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama where he was an ROTC instructor. After leaving the Army, he was employed by the Hartford Insurance Company where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President before retiring in 1997. Both he and his wife Jane, who also worked at The Hartford, took early retirement at the age of 52.

He met his wife Jane while in college and in 1967 was married in Woodward, Oklahoma. They traveled extensively during their marriage both domestically and internationally. He is survived by his wife Jane of 58 years, his daughter Gena Costello and her husband Frank, two beautiful granddaughters Kelly and Caitlin. He was preceded by his sister Pam and her husband J.D. Johnston, his brother Nial and his parents.

He was an avid golfer and played over 240 different gold courses both domestically and internationally. He was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation and was a member of the Chickasaw Warrior Society.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the recreation department at the Healthcare Center at John Levitow Health Care Center. The entire staff there are shining examples of what VA care should and can be. Their care for Lonnie was exceptional and deeply appreciated.

Services will be held at John Levitow Health Care Center Chapel on December 29th at 10:00 am. There will be half hour of calling hours prior to the service. Burial to follow in Colonel Raymond F.
