Louise Mary (Fitts) Askew

The Lord finally told Louise to come on home, your work here on earth is finally done. Louise Mary (Fitts) Askew, 88, of Middletown, CT passed away on December 1, 2022.  Louise was the first born of 7 children to Charlie and Ruth (Martin) Fitts.

Louise first job was as a seamstress in New York, she then moved to Connecticut where she worked in the laundry department at Middlesex Hospital, transferring to the laboratory department where she worked for 15 years.  Louise retired from Bob’s distribution center after 19 years. 

Louise was faithful to God.  Truly loving the Lord, she became an active member of Zion First Baptist Church, and was on many ministries. She loved her church and her church family. She was supportive to her pastor and could always be seen on the church bus following Pastor Giles whenever she was needed. She has even followed Pastor and Mrs. Giles to the Holy Land in Jerusalem.

Louise loved watching her judge shows, the news, tennis and dancing with stars.

She was often stopped by strangers where ever she went for having beautiful, silver hair and personality to match. She quickly became nurses and doctors favorite patient with the nurses often saying she is their favorite patient and how they go home with her on their mind, wanting her to get better and wishing they could do more. The nurses would often come in and say they were hoping Louise was one of their patients for the day. 

Louise was the most kind hearted, quiet, easy-going, loving, never having a bad thing to say about anyone.

Louise leaves to cherish her memory; her 2 sisters, Francis Stamp and Gertrude Slade of Danville, Virginia; her 4 children, Carol Myers, Edward James Coleman, Joanne Overton and Mary Askew; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grand children, 2 God daughters and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family & friends. 

Louise was preceded by her parents Charlie and Ruth Fitts, 3 brothers Willie Shirley Fitts, Jimmie Wilson Fitts, Raliegh Fitts and a sister Odell Mae Hoggard.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 8th at 11:00 am at Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Avenue, Middletown.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church before the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory may be made to Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A.
