Loretta Gillanders, age 93, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 23, 2024, in Middletown, Connecticut. Born in Madawaska, ME, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Albert) Daigle born on August 24, 1930.
Loretta was employed at Middlesex Hospital as a Nurse's Aide in the PACU until her retirement. Loretta lived in Madison CT prior to moving to a content life in Largo, Florida. She was a devoted fan of the UCONN Lady Huskies and enjoyed playing Bunco, Bingo, and cards.
Loretta is survived by her sons Dennis Gillanders (Djoeke), Gerald Gillanders (Debby), Mark
Gillanders (Pat), a daughter Diana Dunham (Matt), 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and
3 great-great-grandchildren. Loretta is also survived by a sister, Francis Halish and brother,
Peter Daigle.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Gillanders, two sisters
Bernadette Hughes, and Shirley Morrissey.
The family would like to thank Athena Homecare Hospice and The Village at South Farms for
the dedication and loyal assistance they showed our mom.
A memorial service will be held on June 15, 2024, at 10:00 am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St, Middletown, CT with Fr. Kennedy officiating, and interment will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown.
