Lois Mae (McConochie) Hoops

Lois Mae (McConochie) Hoops, 99, wife of the late Lyman Blair Hoops, passed away on June 11, 2025, at her home at The Arbors of Hop Brook, Manchester, CT. Born in Middletown on January 29, 1926, she was the daughter of Jesse Ferguson and Mary “Mae” (Tatro) McConochie. Lois grew up in Middletown and graduated from the Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing. She and her husband Lyman (Lem) lived in Maryland while Lem was in the Navy then moved back to Connecticut where they lived in Westfield, Tolland and Manchester before settling in Old Lyme. She is survived by her daughter Sally Barr and her husband Roger of Bolton, two sons, Timothy Hoops and his wife Cheryl of Manchester and Thomas Hoops and his wife Debbie of Bolton, four grandchildren, James Barr and his wife Maurica, Jason Hoops, Kimberly Mercier and her husband Donald and Andrew Hoops and his wife Christina, and ten great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Zachary Barr, Riley and Sydney Hoops, Jacob, Avery and Natalie Mercier, and Arianna, Kingsley and Jetson Hoops. The family is grateful for the care Lois received from Nutmeg Home Assistance, Beacon Hospice Care and The Arbors. A Celebration of Life will be at St. George’s Episcopal Church, Rt. 44 Bolton, Saturday July 19, 2025 at 11:00am. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Indian Hill Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
