Leonard Russman Obituary

     Leonard Benton (Lenny) Russman, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born in Middletown on August 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles and Ethel Russman. He grew up on the grounds of Connecticut Valley Hospital where his father practiced psychiatry. He attended Northfield Mount Hermon School, Wesleyan University, and Brandeis University where he was a member of its first graduating class. Lenny spent more than 30 years in the State of Connecticut’s Department of Adult Probation, from which he retired as the Deputy Director. 

     Lenny was a standout baseball and tennis player, and umpired Division 1 college and Cape Cod League baseball. He will long be remembered by his family and friends as an avid reader and for his love of bridge, which he played daily until the end.

     Lenny is survived by his two sons and their wives, Eric and Sherry, and David and Ragan, his grandchildren Amanda, Benjamin and Sage, his brother-in-law, Marvin Hoberman, and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Jean, and his twin sisters, Naomi (Mimi) Russman Hoberman and Reva Russman Paley.


     A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at 11:00 am at Adath Israel Cemetery 714 Pine Street, Middletown. The family will observe shiva immediately afterward until 7 pm at the home of Eric and Sherry Russman.
