Joseph Santaniello, 76, of Middletown, CT and Englewood, FL passed away on January 20, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in New Haven, CT on June 18, 1944, son of the late Catello Santaniello and Rose (Landino) Santaniello.
Joe served in the Army Reserve and was a graduate of UConn with a degree in civil engineering and was a licensed Professional Engineer. He spent his 37-year career as a traffic engineer for the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation, retiring as the Executive Director, State Traffic Commission.
Joe loved sports, watching as well as playing and could be heard ‘coaching’ or rather screaming at his favorite teams, the NY Giants and the Yankees.
Wintering in FL afforded Joe the opportunity to play golf, a sport he loved, year round as well as tennis and pickleball.
Joe was a wonderful and generous son, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Joe leaves his beloved son and daughter-in-law Joseph C. Santaniello and Jamie (Buchanan) Santaniello of Cromwell, CT, his sister Jean and husband Frank Iadone, his nephew Frank Iadone Jr., his niece Karen and her husband John Gagliardi, and his special great nephew Michael Gagliardi, all of East Haven, CT. He also leaves his loving companion and partner of many years, Nancy B. Allison of South Windsor, CT and Englewood, FL. Joe had a long and close bond with his cousins Rich & Judy Santanelli, Mario & Ann Tobia, Mary Jane and Ron Parisi and Neil & Jo-Ann Landino. He was predeceased by cousins Grace Landino McAvoy and Joanne Tobia Petonito. He will be missed by his lovingly spoiled grand dogs, Batman and Milo and grand cat, Tyson.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday January 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday January 28th at 10:00AM at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown, CT followed by interment in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. Masks and social distancing are required at all services.
