John F. Prendergast Jr.
September 11, 1946 – July 29, 2025
John F. Prendergast Jr., age 78, of Cromwell, Connecticut passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 29, 2025, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, Connecticut.
John was born in New Britain, Connecticut, where he grew up before moving to Cromwell, Connecticut with his beloved wife, Gloria, where they built their home to raise a family. John had a rewarding career dedicated to his passion for photography. He was not only extremely talented but was also a leader and a teacher in his professional career. Outside of photography, John was also a very gifted woodworker who built everything from kitchen cabinets, to furniture, to wooden clocks, pens and much more. He shared his many talents with everyone, and his beautiful creations will be cherished forever.
For the past two decades, John had courageously battled kidney disease. During the last 8 years, John went for dialysis treatments 3 times a week, at Herald Square Dialysis Center in New Britain, Connecticut. His family is beyond proud and inspired by his relentless bravery in facing his health battles head-on. John’s family sends a special thank you to the teams at both Herald Square Dialysis Center and The Hospital of Central Connecticut for their outstanding support and care.
For all who had the privilege to know John, realize just how special he was. We will always be remembered for his charismatic personality, sense of humor, candor, and love.
John was an amazing husband and father. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Gloria Prendergast, son Jeffrey and wife Lindsay, son Marc and wife Kristin, and her sister Jessica Cochrane, 4 grandchildren Avery, Lucas, James and Emma, sister Catherine and husband Robert Ksiazek, sister-in law Linda and husband Joseph Costello, brother-in law Philip Corbin, sister-in law Janet and husband Todd Cinnamon, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.
John was predeceased by his father, John F. Prendergast Sr., mother, Sylvia Prendergast, and brother, Joseph Prendergast.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, Connecticut. No burial services at this time. In lieu of flowers, his family asks for a donation in John’s name to either:
