John Charles Hough, 88, beloved husband of Dianne Mirabito-Hough for thirty-five years, passed away on March 30, 2026, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Bridgeport Connecticut on July 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Nora Reidy Hough and the late Harold Hough. John was also predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Harold “Bob” Hough and sister-in-law Dorothy Hough.
John served in the United States Army in 1959 and 1961 to 1962. He was a long time State of Connecticut employee, retiring in February 1992. John was an avid reader who enjoyed fiction, World War II history, and science often rereading his favorites. He enjoyed outdoor activities, such as hiking, canoeing and kayaking. Another favorite past time of John’s was travel, especially road trips.
Along with his wife, John is survived by his son Sean Hough and daughter-in-law Susannah of Colchester, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Perry and Susan Mirabito of Cheshire, niece Maureen Mocker of Trumbull, nephew Bob Hough of West Haven and their children.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9th at 12:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown, CT. A burial will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. Family and friends may call before the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Donations in John’s name may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
