On Saturday March 2, 2024, John Aiken Jr., Jap as he was fondly called by his family, received his call home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While on his journey home, John was surrounded by his family at Middlesex Hospital. After 78 years, he heard his Lord and Savior say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done.” John was born in Georgetown, South Carolina and was the son of the late Johnny and Minnie (Lewis) Aiken. He was a United States Marine Corp Veteran and received Honorable discharge. John fought in the Vietnam War. As a Marine Corp Veteran John was stationed in the Dominican Republic. After his time as a Marine, he became a construction worker and that was his job for many years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son Christopher Wesley Aiken of Atlanta, Georgia, his two brothers John Arthur (Brenda) Aiken of Bristol, Connecticut and Wayde (Gloria) Aiken of Middletown, Connecticut. He also leaves behind his three sisters, Doris Ann (Robert Lee) Jones, Glenteen (Woodrow) James, and Janie Aiken, all from Cromwell, Connecticut.
John also leaves behind two grandchildren Olivia and Raigan of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. During his free time, he enjoyed reading, fishing, and talking about history. He loved being a southern boy and loved wearing his cowboy boots. John was a great lover of history and could recall dates, times, and events without hesitation.
John was one of a kind and will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8th at 11:30 AM at Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church with the Reverend Robin Anderson officiating.
