Janet Mary Wilkins Paole peacefully passed away on the morning of December 14, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born in St. Albans, Vermont, to the late George and Beatrice (Cota) Wilkins, she resided most of her life in East Hartford, Glastonbury, and Middletown, Connecticut.
While raising her 3 daughters, she found great joy in volunteering her time as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Vice President of the PTA, teaching Sunday school, and was a member of the East Hartford Women’s Club and Women’s Circle. She was employed in her early years by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and later retired from Smith Middle School of Glastonbury after 38 years as an administrative assistant.
She enjoyed summers at the beach, skiing the mountains of New Hampshire in the winter, and hosting family parties. She made every moment matter and every occasion a reason to celebrate, creating lasting memories. Her steadfast love and unwavering support made her the glue that held her family together. She fostered many friendships throughout her life and had an innate ability to make others feel heard and valued, always leaving a lasting impression. Her love of animals—especially cats—was legendary, always feeding or taking in a stray. Her last companion for 15 years was her beloved cat, Suzie, who she adored.
Beside her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, Roger Wilkins and Silas Wilkins, and her sister, Gwendolyn Rains. She leaves to celebrate her memory her children, Donna Paole of Middletown, Patricia Paole and her husband Scott Bell of North Granby, Susan Miller and her husband Dennis of Florida, her grandchildren Austin Weeks and wife Autumn, Dylan Weeks and wife Tanya, Tiffany Weeks, Morgan Miller, Ian Bell, Evin Bell and his partner Shannon Nicholls, and great-grandchildren Parker and Peyton. She also leaves her loving sister, Judy Kot and her husband Tom, brothers-in-law Robert Rains and Fred Casasanta, sisters-in-law and best friend Jane Wilkins and Arlene Stiffler, 16 nieces and nephews and a large extended family, and special friends Joanne Grasso and Kathy Puzanowski.
