James Holley
May 16, 1960 – March 11, 2025
James Holley, a beloved father, son, cousin, nephew, and friend, passed away on March 11, 2025. Born on May 16, 1960, in Middletown, Connecticut, James grew up surrounded by family, spending much of his youth creating cherished memories with his cousins.
He attended Woodrow Wilson High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. A natural leader, James, served as captain of the basketball and football teams, he was also the Captain of the track team his senior year; earning the admiration of his teammates and coaches alike. His intelligence and determination set him apart, and he carried those qualities with him throughout his life. He went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut in 1982 and later worked briefly for the State of Connecticut.
A well-known and cherished presence in the North End of Middletown, James had an infectious happiness, a booming voice, and a warm spirit that made him impossible not to love. His kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. When James was around, you always knew it—his voice and laughter filled every space.
Above all, James treasured time with his loved ones. One of his greatest joys was his coffee dates with his daughter, moments he always looked forward to. He found happiness in being surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and love.
James was predeceased by his father, James Holley Sr., his mother, Helen Holley, and his sister, Lynette Chatfield. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Jose) of Manchester, CT; his son, Troy Holley of Washington, D.C.; and his two grandchildren, Keegan and Kaleb Crawford. He also leaves behind his sister, Lenora Webb of Georgia, his brother, Darrell Holley of Manchester, CT, Michael Gaskin of NY and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
James will be deeply missed, but his kindness, laughter, and generous heart will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
