James D. Hill, Sr., 70, of Middletown, CT, passed away at home surrounded by his family and friends on July 4, 2026. James was born on August 13, 1955, in Greene County, Alabama, to the late Chattie and L.C. Coleman. James accepted Christ later in life. James was well known for working on cars or anything with a screw or bolt!

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife of 50 years, Marla (Goodrich) Hill of Middletown; sister Clara (Aaron) Paris of Waterbury; brother Alphonso Coleman of Waterbury; 2 daughters, Crystal Hill of Middletown and Jaime Hill of Portland; son, James Hill Jr. of New Britain; and 10 grandchildren, Janiyah (Malachi), Jaiquan, Zaikwan, Samiyah, Nova, Da’Najah, Jaiden, Jacinda, Julianna, and James III. James adored his kids and grandkids. He is also survived by a special aunt, Cora Hill of Middletown, a special friend, Kimberly Woodbury of New Britain and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and relatives.

Along with his parents, James was predeceased by several aunts, uncles, a sister, and a brother.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at 11:00 am at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 346 Butternut Street, Middletown.  Family and friends may call before the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am.  Burial will take place in Alabama on a future date.  To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
