On March 14, 2024, Irene Francis Shipley (nee Morey) of Middletown, passed peacefully surrounded by all her children and grandchildren. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born May 11, 1939, in Salisbury, CT, Irene was a feisty and formidable spirit. Always ready with advice for anyone that needed it, Irene was an artist who loved the outdoors, gardening, books, birds, painting, and cooking. She will forever be remembered for her work ethic, independence, resilience, sense of humor, and selflessness. Also, for her apple pie and Thanksgiving dinners.         

Irene is survived by her five children Earl Shipley Jr. and his wife Cheryl (Folkston, GA), Brenda Shipley (Branford), Brian Shipley and his wife Corinna (Willington), Amanda Lockhart and her husband Doug (East Hampton), and Melissa Pepin and her husband Rich (Middletown); grandchildren Ethan Shipley and his wife Jessica, Sarah Simmons and her husband Mark, Joshua Elges, Madison Lockhart, and Emma Pepin; and great-grandchildren Delilah, EJ, Penelope, and Jacqueline.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Doolittle Funeral Home in Middletown.
