Ione R, faithful wife, and mother, died peacefully at The Village at South Farms after recently celebrating a joyous 100th birthday filled with love, laughter, family and friends. Ione graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C. and received a B.A. degree in Physical Education from Howard University. She later continued her studies at the University of D.C. and Trinity College, Washington, D.C.
After graduating from Howard, Ione received a fellowship to study Health Education at Hampton Institute. She taught at Hampton Institute where she met her future husband, Everett. She taught in the DC Public School System for 15 years. Throughout her 64 years of marriage, she and Everett provided a loving and stable home, a college education for both their daughters and grandchildren and supported countless extended family members.
Ione was a tireless advocate for education and was an enthusiastic cheerleader for every family member who earned a degree. She will always be remembered for being a proud Howard alum, her love of music, plants, and shopping, but most of all, her love for family and her loyal friendship.
