Gladys Mae Johnson was born on September 25, 1943 in Eutaw, Alabama. She entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2026. Gladys was the youngest child of the late Daisy Rice Grayson. Her legacy continues to live through her daughter, Tonya King, her three grandchildren, Chantel, Taylor, and Tamyia, and her great-grandchildren, Na’Jawan Jr, Naomi, Nyles, and Christopher III. Gladys also leaves her loving memory with her siblings, Robert Rice Sr. (Merline) of Aliceville, Alabama and Catherine O’Neal of Decatur, Georgia. Gladys is predeceased by her brother, William Rice (Mary) and sister, Pecolia Hill. She leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends who meant so much to her.
Gladys Mae Johnson attended Eatman Elementary and High School in Greene County Alabama. She transitioned to Connecticut some years later and became a Line Feeder at R.R. Donnelley for 30 years. In her free time, Gladys enjoyed spending time with her family, hanging outside with her friends in the building, buying bags of her favorite candy, taking trips to Mohegan Sun, and making her famous pound cakes for all who asked for it. She was a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia 76ers. Gladys continues to be remembered for her giving spirit and fierce personality.
Although Gladys is no longer with us earthside, we know she is resting in the comfort of God’s arms in heaven. We celebrate her life, honor her legacy, and hold her in our hearts, forever.
Matthew 25:21 “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
