George Perrin Sr. was born on June 17, 1948 in McCormick, SC and transitioned early Sunday morning, July 14, 2024 at the age of 76. He was born to the parents Parrie Lee Perrin-Burnett and Smith Perrin. George dedicated his life to Jesus Christ at an early age. The family moved to CT in 1962. He was educated in the Bridgeport School System attending Bullard Havens Technical School. He excelled in wood shop classes, Football, Basketball and Baseball. He was a decorated Marine who served in the Vietnam War with a favorite saying of “Once a Marine, Always a Marine, Semper Fi”! After serving his country, he returned home to open his carpentry shop and martial arts school.
George was a mentor to many in the community. He served as a community advocate who helped to obtain free school bus transportation in the city of Bridgeport in the late 1960’s. George can be remembered for going to Seaside Park to pray early in the morning and run on the rocks. He always maintained his fitness and encouraged others to do the same. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, integrity, and a commitment to excellence that he carried throughout his life.
He was a martial arts expert who enjoyed teaching many styles to young people. He taught martial arts such as Taekwondo, Karate, Judo and other disciplines. He was a carpenter by trade and started his own business where he extended his skills to anyone who needed his help especially churches in the city of Bridgeport. He purchased and renovated homes to better the city of Bridgeport as he taught others carpentry skills. He was a faithful member of St. Pauls’ Missionary Baptist church where he was an accomplished musician, with a love for percussions, and served for many years before relocating to Troy, SC where he became a member of Glovers Chapel Baptist Church.
George was devoted to his entire family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his family, creating lasting memories and nurturing strong bonds that will endure through generations.
George leaves to mourn, his devoted wife Elizabeth Perrin, their loving children Dajsha Perrin and Michael Perrin. Also, Lisa Chester (James), Michelle Lindsey (Tavares), George Perrin Jr. (Kashon), Angelia Smith (Charles) and nine loving grandchildren DeAndre Walker, Kylani Walker, Alexxis Baldwin, Iyonnah Hasan, Xamell Johnson, Jevonne Lashley, Lashea Coverson, Ian Perrin, and Kaitlynn Perrin. Four Great grandchildren, Isaiah Perrin, Leilani Perrin, Kyani Perrin, and Naomi Coverson. George is survived by one sister, Nina Middleton (Trumbull, CT). He was predeceased by his parents Parrie Lee Perrin-Burnett and Smith Perrin, six brothers, James Patterson, Willie Perrin, Garnell Perrin, Joseph Perrin, John Perrin and Alexander Wideman. Two sisters, Irene Williams and Mallie Mae Callaham.
George leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a special cousin Charlie Bentley and friend Reggie Huffman. He was truly a positive influence to everyone he met.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 24th at 11:00 am at Doolittle Funeral Home 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Interment will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, where full military honors will be accorded.
