Geoffrey Wilcock Obituary

Geoffrey Austin Wilcock

   May 12, 1939 - January 11, 2025

Geoffrey A. Wilcock peacefully passed away at home on January 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Greater Manchester, England, in the village of Timperley, Geoff was the oldest of three children born to Gladys Selina (Lees) Wilcock and Gordon Wilcock of Manchester, UK.

Geoff grew up in England. As a young man he studied accounting, earning his certification as a chartered accountant. That choice of profession led to years of working in chartered accountant’s offices in Gibraltar, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Hong Kong before returning to England. A work assignment brought Geoff to the United States where he lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Florida, proudly becoming a US citizen in 1982.

In Massachusetts, he welcomed his beloved daughter Jennifer. After moving to Connecticut, he met Judith (Judy) Burns, his true love and lifelong partner of forty-two years and her daughters whom he cared for as his own. After splitting their time between Connecticut and Florida, Geoff and Judy made their permanent home once again in Old Saybrook, CT.

In addition to his work in accounting, Geoff was a businessman who invested in real estate, restaurant ownership, and with Judy, the establishment of an early childhood care and education center.

Ever keen on adventure and sport, Geoff relished travelling the world, piloting his own plane, playing soccer, field hockey, skiing, hiking, running, and biking.

Geoff will be forever remembered for his brilliant, quick-witted sense of humor, his encouragement of others to live fully, and his unshakable belief in those he loved.

Geoff is survived by his life partner Judith Burns; his daughter Jennifer Foxwell (Derek Foxwell, grandchildren Daniel Woods, David Foxwell, and Hannah Foxwell, and great-granddaughter Aubree Woods-Napsey; Judith’s daughters Marla Hinz (Gordon Hinz, daughter Bridget Hinz); Paula Parker (John Parker, son Daniel Parker, daughter Kelsey McIssac; Erica Leonardi (Sebastian Leonardi (son Jordan Leonardi; six great-grandchildren; brother Ken Wilcock (Christine Wilcock children Roger, Clare, and Helen); sister Libby Whittle (William Whittle, children Andrew, Robert, and Nicholas; and many grandnieces, nephews, and cousins. Judith’s daughter Vanessa Binder predeceased him.

The family extends their gratitude to George, for patient and compassionate care and to Lara, his hospice nurse, for kindness and gentle support throughout his prolonged illness.
