Frank (Francis) J Carotenuto, age 89, passed away at his home, The Inn at Robbins Brook in Acton, MA, on December 17, 2025, while being comforted by his daughter Laura of Hinesburg, VT and son Joe (Joseph) Carotenuto of Acton, MA, and while in the care of hospice. Frank was born in Derby, CT, to Anthony N. and Catherine M. Carotenuto (Salvati), and most recently lived in Hamden, North Branford, and Cromwell, CT before moving to Massachusetts. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Rosemary (Vitale), as well as his parents and sister, Catherine (Cathy) Monaco and son-in-law, Craig Chevrier. Frank is survived by his children, Joe, his wife Terri, and Laura, as well as brothers Bill (William) and Art (Arthur) of Derby, CT, grandchildren Natalie, Max, Amanda, and Brendan and the wider Monaco family.
Frank was proud of his long career and many successes as a tool and die maker at several corporations in Connecticut and in Los Alamos, NM and was widely considered a master craftsman in the field. He was an avid golfer and a fan of golf to the end and also had enjoyed league bowling and bocce with family and friends and with the Hamden Elks Lodge. Frank was also an enthusiastic member of the Knights of Columbus for many decades and most recently a member of St. John’s Parish in Cromwell, CT. Frank served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Frank especially enjoyed traveling with Rosemary and was happiest when sharing stories of his journeys and adventures over the years. Although a man of few words, he was a keen observer of the world around him. When asked, his advice was always insightful and unerring. He was proud of his family, particularly his grandchildren, and a strong advocate for their success.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint John Church, 5 Saint John Court, Cromwell. Interment will follow in Saint Sebastian’s Cemetery. For friends who prefer, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to ortv.org, either the TV Mass or WJMJ radio, both favorites of Frank. Cromwell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
