Florence Rizy Obituary

Florence (Phyllis) Rizy passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Tuesday June 9, 2021, after a courageous battle to overcome a combination of severe medical conditions and complications. The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Care-Givers at Hartford Hospital for the compassionate professional care she received in this most difficult time.

Phyllis was born on May 17, 1937 in Port Chester, New York to Bill and Sunny Sinclair. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1955; and, received her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing in 1959. She then married J. Arthur Rizy, Jr., initially moved to Buffalo, NY then to Burnt Hills, NY, where they raised their three children. She began her professional nursing career as a School Nurse at Burnt Hills High School.

In 1983, she took on a completely new career direction as a Medical Detail Representative for Stuart Pharmaceuticals. A year later, she was promoted to manage the New England Market as District Manager, relocating to Glastonbury, CT. She continued to manage this market for ICI Pharma and Zeneca Pharmaceuticals.

In 1995, she made the bold and courageous decision to change her career path, becoming an entrepreneur. She took the lessons learned as a Nurse and Business Leader, and co-founded a business dedicated to improving both corporate culture and business performance, called Decision Point LLC, with a former Peer at ICI Pharmaceuticals, Paul Decelles.

In 2005, she co-founded YardeZone Inc. with Partners Paul Decelles and former owner of Yarde Metals, Craig Yarde. She has continued to work as a major contributor and Business Coach in this enterprise to this day.

Phyllis is beloved and admired by her peers and clients, due to her selflessness, energy, compassion, and intelligence. Despite her remarkable business accomplishments, her most cherished titles always were “RaRa” and “Grandma”, as her grandchildren affectionately called her. She will be remembered by all who loved her by the generous and caring heart and soul that undoubtedly led her to choose nursing as a career. She was a very special person; and, she will be missed by her family, friends, and clients alike.

In addition to her beloved husband of 62 years, J. Arthur Rizy, Jr., she leaves her son J. Arthur Rizy, IV and his wife Pam, her son Randy Rizy and his wife Kim, her daughter Jill Rizy, her grandchildren Kevin Rizy, Rebecca Rizy, Will Pompa, Trevor Pompa, Sara Pompa, and a small army of very dear friends.
