EthelMay Christensen Obituary

EthelMay (Drew) Christensen passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on February 17, 2021. EthelMay was born in Laconia NH on June 14, 1940 to John and Ethel (Bosworth) Drew and grew up in Manchester CT.  She lived in Cromwell after she and Melvin got married.

She met her husband of 62 years, Melvin Christensen, when she was 13 years old and they were together ever since. When they were first married EthelMay worked at Raymond Engineering until the birth of their first child. Later on, EthelMay began working as a nurse’s aide at Cromwell Crest and the Lutheran Home Convalescent Homes and then as a Home Health Care giver.  When their health failed, she also cared for her in-laws, Harry and Carrie Christensen until their deaths.   EthelMay was an avid crafter.  She loved crocheting, knitting, embroidery and needlepoint. One year she and Melvin made Flag pins for the entire elementary school for Flag Day.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; Kim & James Bellamo, Sandra and Gregory Harriot, and Robert and Cindy Christensen. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses; Christopher and Ashley Bellamo, Joshua and Brittany Bellamo and Robert and Ashley Christensen and 11 great-grandchildren whom EthelMay adored. She is also survived by her sister and her husband, Dolores and Len Favalora, her brother and his wife, John and Carol Drew and a dear friend, who was like another daughter, Debby Clare and her husband Bill. She also leaves her very special caregiver, Glenora Stephens who has become part of the family.  Besides her parents and in-laws, she was predeceased by a grandson, Robert (Bobby) Christensen.

We would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Hartford Hospital, not only for their care of EthelMay but for their kindness and help for her family. We would also like to thank Visiting Angels, the staff at Prospero Health, especially Lisa Stemm  and her very special doctor Timothy Buckley for all their help and kindness in caring for EthelMay so she was able to stay home as long as possible.
