Ethel Julia Troxler Diaz of Waterbury, CT, passed away at Waterbury Hospital on April 21, 2022, after battling a long illness. She was 71 years old.

Ethel was born on September 23, 1950, in Middletown, CT. She graduated from Old Saybrook Senior High School in 1969. In 1977, she married Alain Diaz Sr. and together they celebrated 44 years of marriage.  

Ethel, known affectionately by her grandchildren as “Grammommy” or “Grandma,” was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her kind smile, warm heart, and gourmet cooking made all those around her feel loved and safe. A woman with a free spirit and contagious laugh, Ethel had an aura about her that exuded both strength and comfort. She is fondly remembered for her maternal intuition, being a refuge for those in need, lighting up a room through humor and dance, and always looking fashionable whilst doing it.    

Ethel is preceded in death by her son, Andrew Diaz, brothers, Joseph Troxler Jr. and Donald Troxler, sister, Jaqueline Troxler, and mother and father, Joseph and Eunice Troxler.  She is survived by her husband, Alain Diaz Sr., brothers, Ronald Troxler, Malcolm Troxler, Gilbert Troxler, and Rene Troxler, sister Elaine Wright, daughters, Andrea Raffone, Cynthia Diaz, Veronica Rivas, and Felicia Diaz, son, Alain Diaz Jr., and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2nd at 3:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.   Family and friends may call on Monday before the service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.
