Estelle Jackson Obituary

Estelle Lavania (Byrd) Jackson, 78, of Middletown, wife of the late Sammie C. Jackson, passed away on December 21, 2020 at Wadsworth Glen.  Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Juanita (Brown) Byrd.

Estelle lived in Middletown all of her life and graduated from Middletown High School. She worked for Pratt & Whitney for thirty eight years. Estelle was a member of Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church where she served on the Board of Trustee and was an active member in many other ways.  She took pride in serving community with distributing food to those in need.  She was also an avid fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball and the New England Patriots.  Estelle was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother and the matriarch of the family. 

Estelle is survived by three sons, Sam ‘Skip” Jackson and his wife Maria of Meriden, Joey Jackson of Middletown and Kenneth Jackson of Boca Raton, FL; her step mother, Ethel Byrd of Springfield, MA; two brothers, Howard Byrd of Middletown and Mark Byrd of Springfield, MA; a sister, Rev. Jean Taylor and her husband Eric of Middletown; sister-in-law, Lucille Byrd of Middletown; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Smith and Larry Jackson, both of Middletown; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, William and Jay Byrd and a sister, Lulu Smith.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, 857 South Main Street, Middletown.  To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
