Ernest Peter Garofoli, 87, of Middletown, husband of the late Carolyn (nee Burrill) Garofoli, passed away on January 26, 2024, at his home. Born in Clinton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eleanor (nee Zarella) Garofoli. Ernest, also known as “Junior” back in Clinton, grew up with six brothers and sisters including his Twin Sister Ernestina “Honey’ Gibbons (nee Garofoli).
Ernie had lived in Middletown since 1964 and was a member of Saint Pius X Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving as a Navy Corpsman. Ernie taught Physical Science in the Middletown School system for over 40 years working at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Central Middle School, Keigwin Middle School, and Middletown Junior High School. Ernie served on the Middletown Parks and Recreation Commission. He was Justice of the Peace. He worked various jobs in the summers including supervising Tobacco Crews and Overseeing Middletown Parks and Recreation Youth Conversation Corps. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid racquet ball player.
Ernie is survived by two sons, David C. Garofoli of Springboro, Ohio, and Michael P. Garofoli of Middletown and two grandchildren, Alexandra Garofoli and Andrew Garofoli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 2nd at 10:30 am at Saint Pius X Church. A burial will follow in Indian Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
